नुकताच पुन्हा एकदा जागृत झालेला भारतातील एकमेव जिवंत ज्वालामुखी ........ या ठिकाणी आहे.
भारतातील एकमेव जिवंत / जागृत ज्वालामुखी बॅरन बेट (Barren Island) हे अंदमान आणि निकोबार द्वीपसमूहात (पोर्ट ब्लेअरच्या ईशान्येस सुमारे १३५ किमी अंतरावर अंदमान समुद्रात) स्थित आहे. हा ज्वालामुखी १७८७ मध्ये सर्वप्रथम नोंदवला गेला आणि १९९१, २००५ आणि २०१८ मध्ये पुन्हा पुन्हा जागृत झाला आहे.
अंदमान-निकोबारमधील दुसरे बेट 'नारकोंडम' (Narcondam Island) हे भारतातील 'सुप्त / मृत ज्वालामुखीचे' (Dormant/Extinct volcano) उदाहरण आहे.
India's and South Asia's only active volcano is situated on Barren Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (in the Andaman Sea, ~135 km northeast of Port Blair). First recorded erupting in 1787, it has shown renewed volcanic activity in recent decades.
Another volcanic island in the Andaman archipelago is Narcondam Island, which is classified as a dormant/extinct volcano.
