खालीलपैकी कोणत्या थंडहवेच्या ठिकाणी रेल्वेने पोहोचता येते?
रायगड जिल्ह्यातील 'माथेरान' (Matheran) या थंड हवेच्या ठिकाणी 'माथेरान हिल रेल्वे' (Neral-Matheran Toy Train) या नॅरोगेज टॉय ट्रेनने पोहोचता येते. ही टॉय ट्रेन नेरळ ते माथेरान दरम्यान 21 कि.मी. अंतर सह्याद्रीच्या डोंगरकड्यांमधून पार करते. अब्दुल हुसेन आदमजी पीरभॉय यांनी 1907 मध्ये ही टॉय ट्रेन सुरू केली होती.
माथेरान ही आशियातील एकमेव 'वाहनमुक्त' (Automobile-free) पर्यावरणपूरक हिल स्टेशन आहे. नेरळ-माथेरान टॉय ट्रेन 1907 मध्ये सुरू झाली आणि ती युनेस्कोच्या वारसा यादीच्या विचाराधीन आहे.
Matheran hill station in Raigad district can be reached by rail via the historic narrow-gauge 'Matheran Light Railway' (Toy Train) operating between Neral and Matheran (21 km). Built by Sir Adamjee Peerbhoy and opened in 1907, it winds through scenic Western Ghat slopes.
Matheran is recognized as Asia's only automobile-free hill station. Motor vehicles are completely banned beyond Dasturi Naka to preserve its delicate eco-sensitive status.
